Allocation to palace slashed by 45.8 pc
After a hiatus of four years, Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat presented a Rs. 143.91 billion annual budget for the fiscal year 2006/07 in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
The focus of the budget is primarily on strengthening the democratic system and establishing peace in the country through an election to a constituent assembly, Mahat informed members of parliament.

Squandering the wealth of the nation:
The royal regime has been on a spending spree as per the white paper released Monday by the Ministry of Finance. Questionable and unproductive expenses are high. There has been a three fold increase in the expenses for the royal household.

Another royal gift for the Nepali people. The royal government has hiked prices of diesel and kerosene effective Friday. The hike in the price of petroleum products means that, it is going to affect the middle and lower class Nepalis who mostly use kerosene as fuel for cooking. It also means that public transportation fares, including long haul, will go up as buses which make up the bulk of the system are diesel-powered. Read the rest of this entry »
